How to read a listing like a pro

Start with what is missing. No kitchen photo, no floor plan, or vague room counts usually mean something the seller would rather you discover in person. Compare the price to similar recent listings nearby. A price well below the area is either a bargain or a warning — find out which. Read the terms. Lease length, deposit, pet and smoking rules, and included utilities change the real cost more than the headline rent. Check the location on the map, not just the neighborhood name, and note how close it is to transit, noise sources, and daily errands.
